Angkop Corp — Material System Reference
Flexible Natural
Stone™
A thin-profile architectural surface system composed of genuine stone particles bonded to a dual mesh fiberglass backing. Specified where conventional stone and standard MCM panels face weight, substrate, or installation constraints.
System Definition
01
What Flexible Natural Stone™ Is
Flexible Natural Stone™ (Eco-Flexi MCM) is a composite surface material manufactured from genuine natural stone particles — slate, quartzite, sandstone, and related formations — processed into thin panels and bonded to a dual-layer fiberglass mesh backing. The result is a material that retains the visual and tactile characteristics of natural stone while achieving a profile thin enough to flex, curve, and conform to non-planar substrates.
It is not a simulation, laminate, or printed surface. The stone content is authentic. The system engineering addresses the installation and structural constraints that limit conventional stone in modern construction.

Comparative Analysis
02
Against Traditional Stone and Standard MCM
The following comparison is provided for specification decision support. Values reflect general material category characteristics. Project-specific conditions — substrate type, adhesive system, climate zone, and occupancy — should be evaluated independently.
| Attribute | Traditional Stone Slab | Standard MCM Panel | Flexible Natural Stone™ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Material composition | Quarried stone — full thickness | Aluminum composite or engineered panel | Genuine stone particles — thin profile |
| Weight (approx.) | 40 – 80 kg/m² depending on thickness | 5 – 10 kg/m² | ~3 – 6 kg/m² — up to 80% lighter than stone slab |
| Structural reinforcement | Often required — wall, floor, or substrate | Subframe or panel system typically required | Not required — adheres to standard substrates |
| Substrate compatibility | Concrete, masonry — limited flexibility | Requires engineered subframe | Drywall, concrete, masonry, cement board, existing cladding |
| Curved / non-planar surfaces | Not applicable — rigid | Limited — requires custom fabrication | Yes — columns, arches, curves, ceilings |
| Installation method | Mortar bed, mechanical anchors, crane | Mechanical fastening to subframe | Polymer adhesive — standard tools, no crane |
| Installation speed | Extended — multi-trade coordination | Moderate — subframe lead time | Same-day finish possible — 30-minute adhesive set |
| Fire classification | Non-combustible (stone) — varies by assembly | Varies by core material — verify per product | ASTM E84 Class A — documented |
| Exterior / UV rating | Yes — varies by stone type | Yes — varies by coating | Yes — UV-stable, all-weather rated |
| Aesthetic | Natural stone — full depth variation | Engineered surface — uniform appearance | Natural stone — authentic texture and variation |

Substrate & Installation
04
Substrate Compatibility and Installation Conditions
Flexible Natural Stone™ adheres to all standard construction substrates using a polymer-based adhesive system. No mechanical anchoring, subframe, or structural reinforcement is required for standard wall applications.
| Substrate | Condition | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Drywall (gypsum board) | Suitable | Joints taped and finished. Surface firm and stable. |
| Concrete | Suitable | Clean, dry, structurally sound. No efflorescence. |
| Masonry / CMU | Suitable | Pointed and stable. Seal porous surfaces prior to application. |
| Cement board | Suitable | Preferred for wet environments. Waterproofing membrane required in wet zones. |
| Existing cladding | Conditional | Must be stable, flat, and structurally sound. Verify adhesion compatibility. |
| Exterior sheathing | Conditional | Weather-resistant barrier required. Verify freeze-thaw compatibility for climate zone. |
Curved and non-planar surfaces: The flexible profile conforms to columns, arches, barrel vaults, and irregular geometries without custom fabrication. Minimum bend radius should be confirmed with the project team prior to specification.
Cutting and sizing: Panels are cut on-site with standard utility knife or scoring tool. No wet saw required. Seams do not need to align with substrate joints.
